One does not need a spare, dedicated PC for a LAN console. I think you're thinking of the Ops Console. I run a LAN console from my normal PC; my boss has it configured on his, too.

It was not shipped with an HMC. I'm told that it's not LPAR'd.

So the idea would be to go towards LAN Console. Do you have a spare,
dedicated PC for this functionality?
