For simple pages, OpenOffice does a good job. But I don't like all the tags in upper case.

That may be okay for a quick and dirty solution, but HTML generated from Microsoft Office is horribly formatted, and a terrible example to learn from.

At some point, go to http://www.w3schools.com/ and begin with their tutorials. Properly designed & formatted HTML is so much easier to work with - over time.
