Sounds like a LTO3 or LTO4 would significantly reduce the number of tapes
per backup.

That 5U unit can fit in the middle of the rack. And you can put two
expansion units below and two above. We have the 5U and one expansion
unit. We have it loaded with 6 fiber tape drives.
So I bet BRMS would really drool over that unit.
