Hi Joe,

The i OS actually offers the feature you are asking about directly and you do not need to purchase InfoPrint Server to use it. The name of the feature is Image Print Transform and the general overview information on its capabilities can be found here:

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/books/c415713522.htm

A couple of observations regarding its support for TIFF images:

1. It does not support TIFF using JPEG compression, which over the years has become a de facto standard way of creating TIFF image files. You therefore need to consult further reference information regarding the TIFF formats it does support and then make sure your TIFF generating application can output one of the supported formats.

2. If you are going to store your TIFF files on the IFS, you can move them to an OUTQ be copying them to a printer file. You don't want to use the copy stream file command to execute the movement of the file because it will add space characters to pad out portions of the file that don't match an LRECL value exactly when passing the file into an OUTQ thus corrupting your TIFF image file.

I have helped a few people to try out the Image Print Transform feature in the past and I would be happy to continue this discussion either on or off list should you decide to try out the feature and have more questions about how it works.

Best Regards,

/Paul

subject: Printing TIFF using Info Print

I have created a *USERASCII print file, used ftp to copy a tiff file from
the IFS and can view it on the outq through Operations Navigator.

Now, here is my question - How the heck do I print the thing on a i5
printer?

We recently installed Info Print.  Will that do the trick?  I suspect the
answer will be incredibly simple, but I have not been able to find it.

Thoughts,comments, suggestions?

Thanks,

Joe Wells
