I have a client like that. After 8 years and 16 million bucks, they shut off
the Oracle system. Now Oracle is trying to get them to take the JDE system
to avoid a visit to court. I asked the CIO if he is willing to wait two more
years to get it running. He hasn't responded. He was the one leading the
charge to Oracle.

That's funny enough to be true. It reminds me of a CEO of a large US
based manufacturing company that returned from a cruise where he had
been hobnobbing with other CEOs. He called the IT Director into his
ofice and said, "I think we need an Oracle". Wanting to please his
boss, the IT Director initiated a project to convert from AS/400 to
"Oracle", which turned out like the Waste Management / SAP fiasco.
After much pain, they switched back to their original green-screen
interfaces, and OS/400 database.
I'd better not say the name of the company - in order to protect the
innocent.
