Only if you CHOOSE to use it. You do that in programming languages by specifying keyed access. You need to read the file in keyed sequence to get DB top provide the records in that order.


So, there is no way to define a physical file using DDS to sort records
in anything other than arrival sequence?

Files (including logical files) have an arrival sequence access path and 0 or more keyed sequence access paths. If you don't specify keyed processing you will get arrival sequence.

Note that arrival sequence is upset by REUSEDLT in that records are no longer returned in true arrival (i.e., the order in which they were written) sequence.
