I agree with Chris. We actually have a plan to change the IP numbers of
all of our host i's. So, it's much better to use DNS. I do this over
VPN.

I do have one issue with my VPN client (I've been told that my version is
rather dated and I should upgrade). The issue is that it sometimes does
not use the DNS of the VPN network I am connecting to. At that time,
(after connecting via VPN), I go into Microsoft Services and stop, then
start, the DNS Client. This issue was affecting other stuff also, like
Domino servers, etc. I have the Services shortcut icon right next to the
VPN client shortcut icon on my desktop.

A former senior executive was having this issue with vpn. At that time I
didn't have this trick figured out. Problem resolution was to give the
executive the opportunity to retire. Remember: The squeaky wheel gets
replaced.
