Being somewhat familiar with the internal workings of IBM and how IBM feels about spending "real money" (as opposed to divisional transfers, not to suggest these are done lightly either!), I feel confident that there was an appropriate amount of market research done (with corresponding signoffs) to verify that the marketing effort would be hitting an appropriate target audience.

In the past it seemed the "appropriate target audience" was often attendees at a conference such as COMMON; but this seems to look much more promising :) I, for one, am thrilled just to see advertising for i and an effort to increase awareness of the system in the general marketplace.

done a good job marketing this machine over the last 20 years, perhaps it

Let's be happy we are hearing commercials about i at all. Perhaps someone
at IBM realized that this is the best middleware that they have, and it's
time to promote it? Perhaps the new guys at Power Systems see this OS as
something they wish they could be when AIX grows up ;) Whatever the reason,
I would think that IBM would not be promoting an OS they were moth-balling
(but this is IBM, so you never know).

If anyone finds the radio ads on the internet, please post a link to them as
I am sure a lot of us would like to hear them.
