Not having been with IBM for about a year now I have no idea what the budget might be so I won't touch the dollars with a ten-foot pole, but I do know from past experience that budget numbers seem more fluid than water at IBM and that over the years a growing amount of i development has been funded by several buckets -- not just one simple development budget (which was more the case in the 80s and 90s when everything was done in Rochester (and Toronto)).

To try and answer your question, historically service has been a separate budget item (and for that matter a distinct and separate management chain from development for several management levels). Historically the development budget has also been a combined hardware and software figure, so I have no idea what impact the Power announcements have had on budget accounting.

In any case I certainly anticiapte seeing a V6R2.

Is that accurate? $28 million budgeted for working on enhancements to the
base OS? Does that number include bug fixes and PTFs?

With that kind of a limited budget, I question if there will be a v6r2.
