From: DeLong, Eric

Sounds like an opportunity for a new SCM vendor to enter the scene... Or,
perhaps this could be a community project and offered as open source
(courtesy of midrange.com)....

I think it's a great opportunity for an Open Source project, perhaps one of
the first community-based projects with wide appeal. This is definitely NOT
meant to trivialize projects like iSeries Python or even Bill Reger's
wonderful WRKDBF, simply to acknowledge that midrange OS projects have
traditionally not taken hold unless backed by corporate (like the JTOpen
project).

If Aaron and Richard are involved, I have no doubt that the project would be
of the highest quality and also have a good leading edge feel to it. The
only additional person the project would need in the way of a steering
committee is someone with some real world background in System i application
management. Again, this isn't meant to diminish the abilities of either
Richard or Aaron in this regard, but instead to get someone who has no
experience with CVS or SVN so that they can provide a completely System i
oriented viewpoint.

Since it's unlikely that the SCM vendors would want to get involved, it
would mean someone with a decent home-grown system, or an end user of one of
the packages. Anybody want to belly up to the bar?

Joe
