I might be tempted to take a look at
Remove blanks . . . . . . . . . *NONE *NONE, *LEADING,
*TRAILING...

Then again, I've been vexed off at CPYTOIMPF ever since V5R3 when IBM went
totally bonkers with CCSID and made all my programs that use it stop
working. Ever since then I've used the IFS file API's that Scott Klement
has an award winning free tutorial on. These provide me with:
- no CCSID hassles
- better performance than CPYTOIMPF and CPYFRMIMPF
- better granularity of control. Like the person who keys in a larger
item number than your file supports. You can do much better exception
reporting, etc.
