Ariadne software in the uk has a system called CoolTools Plus.

We use it directly in our line of business applications to send emails of
Purchase Orders and Invoices.
we also use it to create pdf, html etc from printouts for other purposes.
also creates excel files from db2 by passing an sql string, a query, or
other select criteria.

It is simple, easy to use and is "programmer friendly".

also easy to use directly from rpg - do a user open and close of the
spooled file first.

There are several commercial solutions at fairly low cost, considering
your time and effort to do it yourself.

We have an Email Report Server that can do this stuff, along with
requisite converters. Look at our site at www.rjssoftware.com or call us
at 888.RJS.SOFT
