Why do the fields have plus signs in them? Bad date or some such thing?
You'll have to eliminate the bad data first. For example:

CREATE TABLE QTEMP/LESTER (NUMDATE DEC (8 , 0) NOT NULL WITH
DEFAULT)
Table LESTER created in QTEMP.
INSERT INTO QTEMP/LESTER VALUES(20070228)
1 rows inserted in LESTER in QTEMP.
INSERT INTO QTEMP/LESTER VALUES(20070231)
1 rows inserted in LESTER in QTEMP.
CREATE VIEW QTEMP/LESTERV (NUMDATE, REALDATE) AS SELECT numdate,
date(substr(digits(numdate),1,4)||'-'||
substr(digits(numdate),5,2)||'-'|| substr(digits(numdate),7,2))
FROM qtemp/lester
View LESTERV created in QTEMP.
select * from lesterv
....+....1....+....2...
NUMDATE REALDATE
20,070,228 2007-02-28
20,070,231 ++++++++++
******** End of data *

I suppose you could wrap the date conversion in a UDF that would supply
some funky default value.
