I think if you were to define a default edit code of 'X' in the DDS for this field then it would be returned with leading zeros

Just to be clear, the data my programmer is accessing is defined as a zoned decimal field in DB2/400. The field is 9 digits but a normal return from a query does not return the leading zeros which is what she wants.
If necessary, I think I'll use REXX and SQL since REXX is super at string manipulation.
