Remotely uses the EXACT same interface as local does. When you fire up
the interface locally you ARE going through the same browser interface. So
there is NO advantage to doing anything local. So, yes, you can download
firmware upgrades, HMC upgrades, etc remotely. The only thing you miss is
sipping coffee while you scan the screen watching the reboot messages. I
use that time on midrange-l.

I've only been on V7 a couple of weeks. Basically went there as soon as I
saw V7 up at IBM while there for something else.

By OS, did you mean FSP or did you mean i5/OS? Even when in the same room
as the HMC I used the remote 5250 capability on the HMC. For two reasons.
One, the PC on the desk is more ergonomic than the location of the HMC in
the rack.
Two, if I wanted to copy/paste stuff it was possible on the PC on the desk
in the machine room.

Op's gal loves being able to paste commands from my downtime instructions
instead of keying them in.
When I open a pmr with IBM I can now easily paste stuff from the console
into IBM's web access to create/update PMRs.
