Vernon:

As I said, I'm stuck with green screen 5250 in that particular
environment, at least for the moment. Working with only the first member
of a source file is also not going to fly. So iSeries Navigator's db
editor is out on both counts.

As to being a Luddite, it is true that my second most expensive possession
is a First Model Long Land Tower musket (known in the vernacular as a
"Brown Bess"). And I do know how to shoot it. But that is a remarkably
sophisticated piece of machinery, at least for 1742.

Do you have iSeries Navigator? There is a database editor there = it
works with source files. It DOES work with only the first member, as
it is SQL based in its principles. You will see the source date and
sequence columns, too. It nags you about not having journaling on
whenever you make a change - but you did NOT say you wanted EASY, right?
Heh!

You could also bring a member down to the PC and use some text editor
- TextPad actually has some templates for RPG - then you send the
file back up.

But that might be too modern for you, you Luddite!

BTW - that editor in Navigator could be used to change source change
dates - as could SQL, I suppose.

Greetings:

Under the constraints of not having SEU, to my bafflement, I have
discovered the joys of EDTF. I am tempted to remark that it is run by
using the STREDLIN command, but that isn't fair [grin]. More like early
VDE, and a lot better than COPY CON (I am, again, revealing my
small-systems roots).

EDTF will get the job done. In some ways it is surprisingly easy to
use,
granted there is no syntax checking of any kind. However, I would like
to
know if there are alternatives. This is on green screen 5250, running
"bare bones" V5R4.
