Private replies indicate that 17GB is a hard requirement for V5R4. So, the
followup question is this: how hard is it to replace disk drives in the
machine? Especially since IBM actually sold me a machine without a tape
drive. It was at my insistence, but I didn't realize at the time that I
couldn't do any sort of a system backup.

I may update my SWMA and get the V5R4 disks just to have them, pick up some
17GB drives, and then on a rainy weekend try to do the update myself. At
best, it looks like I'd have to save off all of my user data (including the
IFS), then swap all of the drives, then load the system from scratch, and
then reload all my user data.

Is this even do-able for a hardware noob like me?

Joe
