Re: V5R4 and 8GB drives

I did this thing on my 270 while it was at v5r3m0 so I could throw on v5r4.

If you are buying used 17gb drives you may want to look into getting a used tape drive.

How many drives do you have now??? You probably have 6 disk slot max.

Lets assume you have 6 drives in one raid set. you need to remove 2 of them so you can add 2-17gb dives as the loadsource and its mirrored pair. That would leave the other 4 drives in a raid set.

Assuming you have enough space to remove 2 drives you will need to:

break the raid set (here is one exposure point)
remove the data from one of the 8gb drives
remove the drive
add 1 17gb drives
perform a loadsource migration
move the loadsource pair to slot one
as i recall the LS then becomes unconfigured and you can remove it
add the second 17gb drive
start raid on remaining 4 drives and then start mirroring
grab beer and place to lips taking a big drink.
