For an IXS restoring and IPLing don't have to be different. I can shut
down an IXS, save it to tape, ship the tape to a DR facility
cross-country, restore the IXS image, and vary on the IXS. The booted
IXS OS is unaware that anything has changed and merely thinks the server
was shut off for a day or two.
The only caveat is that it has to go from like to like IXS cards; you
can't mix and match the part numbers.
