Hi!

One thing I dislike about FMTDTA is the use of a separate source file
containing the definition of the sort. It is not a good thing when doing a
mass conversion...

Yep... Good old Gsort is a S/36 deal, while
fmtdta is the 400 version.

They both use identical control records....

Something along these lines:

The following source records are stored in a
member called sortrecs in SORCELIB/QFMTSRC.

HSORTR    35A
I C   1  3EQCABC
FNC   1  3
FNC   4  8
FNC   9 11

35 byte rrecord
sort positions 1-3
                4-8
                9-11

Include only records with the characters of ABC in 1-3.

FMTDTA infile(inputfile)  outfile(wrkfile) srcfile(sorcelib/qfmtsrc)

or the S/36 version

// load #GSORT
// file name-input,label-inputfile,disp-shr
// file name-output,label-wrkfile,disp-new,records-2000
// run
HSORTR    35A
I C   1  3EQCABC
FNC   1  3
FNC   4  8
FNC   9 11
// end

Very easy and fairly quick (all from memory)

Get the manuals....

Hi!

Just a question about GSORT. Is it possible to run that in a CLP with a
STRS36PRC? If it is possible, can you tell me how? Do you consider
FMTDTA as
a GSORT?
