The 3rd party is a govt agency and they will not do anything for us, except to 
say that their file is correct.  I wanted them to send it to me in email but 
they wouldn't do that.  The file is only 2k recs and is not encrypted but they

Something to try if all else fails... Have the other shop save the object 
to a savf and get that savf on you system and restore it. Now start a FTP 
session to your own system from your system and see what happens during 
the transfer. I have seen on rare occasions a data pattern hose up a modem 
or similar device. I know it's way out there, but what the heck.
