I tend to agree with you Scott.  If one creates decent views, then 
downloading from Excel isn't so bad at all.  Then again, some people rant 
and rave about Query/400.  Again, most of the problems your average user 
has with Query/400 can be rectified with decent views.

For batch, I'd use your service program for HSSF.
