Joe,
It's a replacement for a twinax console for those i5 machines that don't
have a LPAR thus don't need an HMC.
There's been some discussion on this list about them,

Basically, a custom Neoware thin client box from IBM.

I just installed two new 520s with thin consoles. I plugged
them in and
turned them on. Not too difficult.
The most difficult part was setting the IP and system name
parameters to
suit the customer requirements.
Ease-of-use = 10 out of 10. And I am not a sysadmin, either.
