DSPPGMREF will show the format level identifiers used in the record formats
referenced by a program. You can do that to an outfile and then use that as
a base to access the files (DSPFD) and get the file's format level
identifier. I'm sure there are APIs that do this. And no doubt there's a
TAATOOL to do that too.

Does anyone know of a software package or even an API that could be used
to find from the object of the program what the "Level Check ID" would be
for files and then be able to check the object description of the files
and see if a program would need to be recompiled?

Reason being is we have a vendor package where only custom and our own
mods are in our change management system, but if the vendor makes a
change to a base file (not in CMS) then we have programs that have no
other changes and they fall "thru the cracks" so to speak until they are
run. Then we know big time about the Level Check.

I don't off hand remember anything like this and don't remember any API's
that can do this, but that doesn't' mean squat.

Thanks for any recommendations or suggestions you can make.
