Anyone remember how the other vendors were upset when IBM gave away a car at LotusSphere years ago at their AS/400 booth? Crowds packed around the booth. The lines literally cut off access to the other hardware vendor booths. Grievances filed from these other vendors, etc. (But at least they did give the car away.) The advertising at LotusSphere, airports, etc at that time was intense for the AS/400. They sold AS/400's to run Domino like hotcakes. Local IBM sales rep (remember them?) said that he was walking into accounts that he didn't even know had AS/400's because Domino was pushing iron so fast. Lotus Notes advertising was so intense that my teenage daughter was literally awestruck that I used Notes.
