Tom, how do _know_ someone didn't simply use UPDDTA to change the program name in > the record? On some of my files I have *BEFORE triggers with ALWREPDTA(*YES). The trigger updates the buffer with the date/time and user ID, so even using UPDDTA results in it getting updated. If the file had a field reserved for the program name, the trigger could get that easily too and update it as well. Database journaling could be a far better choice. Agreed; in many scenarios it is. It certainly provide a more complete audit trail plus the ability to do rollbacks, etc. Doug
