At the shop I work at it is a common practice to add the name of the program to the record for research purposes, as well as the date/time fields. As each record is 'touched' the program name that added or updated the record is written into the record. This, then, would be available in the SQL buffer to meet your needs. It may not be feasible to modify your files at this time but future file creation could/should contain this information if you have a use for it. It allows you to research file errors for patterns such as date, time, and/or program. This should be done to satisfy SOX requirements, as well. Good luck.
