In the Premenos/Harbinger/Invois package, the translator does not care what the inbound element separator is. It determines it based on the ISA header, and then applies it to the entire message. A partner can use a * in one message, or a | in the next. No problem at all. You define what your outbound separator is in the outbound trading partner relationship. cjg Carl J. I was hoping to change the * to something like ^ I'm working with an older translator package (Premenos/Harbinger/Inovis Trustedlink), and can see the specification of the control characters on the outgoing (send) Trading Partner Relationship setup. However the inbound (receiving) setup screen does not show these control characters. Is this because the actual control characters used in formatting the data are defined in the envelope ?
