I think mine - I didn't read your message properly!
You don't need a windows password, but you must have a windows user. The password required is not the win98 one but an iseries one.
e.g. My user profile on the iseries is MIKE.
however, my win98 user name is MBARTON.
When i connect to the ifs, it asks for an iseries password for the
user profile MBARTON - and i cannot override this !
So the win 98 user needs to match the iSeries one.
There may well be better options re user/password management which
I don't know of.
Now I understand, although I am still sure that this did not apply on Win 95
