Just to reinforce another post - yes, with the DB2 Text Extenders you can do 
this. It is an extra-cost feature.

The extenders give you some user-defined functions that work against a stream 
file in IFS. These can be inserted directly into a SELECT statement, which can 
be run in iSeries Navigator.
