Kirk: AFAIK, the DSPJRN outfiles have been this way for... well, a long time. The oldest I can test right now is V4R5, but that's the way the outfiles are there. And I wouldn't expect them to be anything else considering what those fields represent. The JOESD field can conceivably contain any combination of CCSIDs. Without knowledge of what each positon contains, converting the data as character data could cause "unpredictable results". What if a portion contained a binary field for example? CCSID conversion would be meaningless. In short, journal outfiles will need to be massaged before attempting to send them to another platform such as a PC.
