Valerio, Some other hints... - QTEMP should already be at the top of your list (best practice) - You can use a permanent LF and simple OVRDBF. That way someone changing the file should maintain your LF as well. - Or you can build a LF in QTEMP with the same name (so you don't need to OVRDBF), but over the base PF. - The LF can have Select or Omit criteria to do the subsetting as long as you use DDS to define it. I'd recommend using a permanent LF with Select/Omit criteria. If you create a wrapper CLP, it might look like this (real example overriding L3 with L6): OVRDBF WBHD00L3 WBHD00L6 [call your program here] DLTOVR WBHD00L3 --Chapin Kaynor Vermont In a message dated 5/4/2005 4:44:23 PM Eastern Standard Time, midrange-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx writes: date: Wed, 04 May 2005 16:08:18 -0400 from: "Valerio Vincenti" <vvincenti@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> subject: RE: Alternatives to build a LF on the fly In fact I need the same record selections and, most importantly, the same sequence. I think I'll try Paul's suggestion (use CRTDUPOBJ of the LF instead of CRTLF) Many thanks to all!!! Valerio Vincenti IT Business Analyst County of Spotsylvania, I.S.
