Here is a pet theory of mine that must be wrong because no else ever mentions it, but I would be glad to read comments regarding it: The single greatest strength of OS/400 is that major tasks can be taught quickly and effectively to relatively average workers. The vertical vs. horizontal approach to tasks means a security officer can be a clerk in the office that has no other computer training. The person that does backup can be the bookkeeper or a night shift worker bee. When I look at other installations it appears to me that no worker is useful at even the smallest of tasks until they have been to school, trained on-site, and have been thoroughly vetted as to their ability. The need for a DBA, with support staff, is critical.
