That didn't seem to show the domain name that you requested. For simple
host name, I can get that from traceroute.

However your solution might excel over more in depth networks. For
example, I use traceroute all the time for stuff within our network to
find the host name. Outside of our network I seem to get a never ending
stream of asterisks. Thanks for the post.

Re: NETBIOS: Retrieve Windows Computer Name and Workgroup via AS/400

OK I got it to work.

My environment:
V5R3 latest CUMe and PTF's

I used the nbtscan source found here:
http://www.inetcat.org/software/nbtscan.html
I installed gcc 3.4.3 from here:
http://aixpdslib.seas.ucla.edu/packages/gcc.html
using directions from here:
http://www.i5php.net/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=5&mode=thread&order=1&thold=

I Untar'd it to its own directory.

from a PASE shell
./configure -build powerpc
make
make install

nbtscan 192.168.9.0/24
Doing NBT name scan for addresses from 192.168.9.0/24
IP address NetBIOS Name Server User MAC address
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
192.168.9.111 AKT-W2K-AS <server> ADMINISTRATOR
00-90-27-14-fd-76

Maybe we try to compile in native mode.
