Here goes the bandwidth... Various arguments and counter arguments: 1 - In theory you could be running a PC XT and still get most of the office functions done. At one time you could do spreadsheets, word processing, 5250, etc on them. Therefore you could still run your business on a V2R1 B10. After all some people did at one time. 2 - No one, without an existing XT, would dream of putting one, regardless of how cheap, on someone's desk today. You miss out on all the hardware capabilities and thus the potential for new software capabilities. Therefore running your business on an older 400 causes you to miss out on all the capabilities of the newer hardware and software on iSeries and i5. 3 - Users won't stand for text based, unless they've had long exposure to it, and even then may balk. After all, how many developers use EDLIN? Notepad doesn't count - it has some mouse capabilities. Why should we expect them to greet 5250 with open arms? Goes back and forth. And how many people actually say "Oh I see what you are saying. You have shown me the light."? None. Waste of time. Save this for the Friday afternoon follies.
