Thanks for all of the suggestions. I wouldn't have guessed that FedEx
would have been an option. We were originally thinking of an ltl carrier.
It will probably take some phone calls to find the most cost-effective.
The idea of getting a college kid to make a road trip was also discussed.
(If that option is taken it might not hurt for the driver to view Smoky and
the Bandit before departing). As for the RV, this will be going from
Seattle to NE Indiana. I don't know of many coming into the midwest. In
fact, last year my in-laws delivered a motorhome to Alaska (no AS/400's
involved). I'll check out Averitt and Acme. Thanks again to all.

I'm not sure about price, but when we were looking around a few months for
somebody to move our Big old, heavy 620 from Atlanta, to Houston, IBM
recommended FedEX.
We were surprised that they used a commercial package shipper for such a
large package.

Subject: AS/400 Shipping Suggestions
Can anybody recommend a good, inexpensive (i.e. cheap) method to ship an
AS/400 half-way across the country? It's a 9404-200 so it's not huge but
still it's probably too big and heavy for UPS. It's an old system so it's
not worth a lot but we would still like it in the same general shape when
it arrives as when it left. There's no hurry so if it can save some money
it's OK if it takes awhile to make the trip. It should probably go on a
pallet but I don't believe that we have one at the origin so we'll need to
find one. Other packing suggestions are also welcome. Thanks.
