We are specifying the logical file in the SQL clause, however your
comment about the *ALLOBJ Special Authority was right on the mark.  I
went back to the user profile and discovered that it had been setup
under the *PGMR user class, which of course has *ALLOBJ

This issue has been resolved, much appreciated to all of you who helped.

Are you specifying the logical file itself in the from clause of the
SQL?

If yes, then the object security on the LF should have the correct
effect.

Unless the web server is logging on under some profile with *ALLOBJ
(which
would be a big no-no)
