I think the biggest problems is if the disks have much 'sit' time. If they are powered off then right back on is not as bad as being powered off for a length of time. 'Stiction' may set in if they sit. They used to blow the disks occaisionally. anyone know if thats still the case. cheers Colin.W ----- Original Message ----- From: "Greg Wenzloff" <GWenzloff@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, August 31, 2004 8:22 PM Subject: Power off and on tasks > We use the power off and on tasks to shut down and restart the AS/400 each > weekend primarily to recover if there is a media error on the weekly backup. > It is undesirable to have everyone come to work Monday morning and find that > the machine has a message to be answered. > > Three weeks ago the FE replaced the batteries in our disk controllers and > since then the machine has not powered off/on. > > Does anyone have an idea of what I should check for?
