Buck, That actually makes perfect sense. Most ISP's are configured the same way. You usually do have to have your outgoing SMTP mail server on your ISP's network. Since most SMTP server are configured to relay mail from the internal network but not the external network. For example: Lets say my work email server is nuvox.net and I have a personal account with cinci.rr.com. In Outlook at work (Nuvox is the ISP) I'd have: Work Email incoming: pop3.nuvox.net outgoing: smtp.nuvox.net Personal Email incoming: pop3.cinci.rr.com outgoing: smtp.nuvox.net At home (with Roadrunner Cincinnati as the ISP) I'd have the following: Work Email incoming: pop3.nuvox.net outgoing: smtp.cinci.rr.com Personal Email incoming: pop3.cinci.rr.com outgoing: smtp.cinci.rr.com Charles > -----Original Message----- > From: Buck Calabro [mailto:buck.calabro@xxxxxxxxxxxx] > Sent: Tuesday, June 29, 2004 12:22 PM > To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: Re: Back to Reverse DNS > > > > However, this seems absolutely illogical to me. > > Why would outgoing.verizon.net be the correct > > destination for cwemail.com? > > I had a similar situation at home with Compuserve.
