I don't think you will get all errors in the qhst files. Especially error 
messages from program
msgw will not show in QHST.
So you would have to monitor QSYSOPR msgq as well.

Here, we use MessengerPlus for doing things like this. You can even scan for 
job end 
messages at specific times. 
Lets say, your backup usually runs from 2am to 4am, then there should be an job 
end 
message around 4am in QHST. MPlus can monitor for this message and send a 
warning 
message when it didn't show up until 4:30am.
