Rob, Also, if there are important spool files that need to be kept, burn them to CD or put them on microfilm/microfiche, then delete them. These kinds of archiving services are not expensive and have been around for years Cheers Colin.W -----Original Message----- From: rob@xxxxxxxxx [mailto:rob@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: 29 March 2004 21:35 To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: Re: wrksyssts non DB-fault paging Not only that, but deleting all spool files after x days old gets your users out of the dangerous habit of thinking that the data is backed up. Then they'll either pony up the money to purchase, or develop your own, spool saving utility. Or maybe even store archival copies of the data used to generate the spool files. We delete all spool files over either 60 or 90 days old, without exception. Another thing, yes we have matured in our security towards output queues. How many others out there have received a call from someone who argued about their check stub, and it wasn't even printed out yet? (It was right, blondie was just looking at the wrong stub. She didn't know which printed first, the check or the stub.)
