They actually walk up to me and ask me if I'd like my PC upgraded. I've
done this a few times. Two company PC's on my desk and one at home, and a
subsidized cable modem. Love it. The users in the plants probably have
to ask. But I supposed if one of our help desk people had to help one out
with a problem and realized it was a dog they might send their supervisor
a quote.

There are some that feel that way about 'misusing' applications. One
supervisor felt his people were more productive when their pc's were down
for a short time. Then they dealt with raw reports instead of prettying
them up to the nth degree. But that was several years ago.

You upgrade your people??! Does that keep the users from figuring out new
and creative ways to misuse their applications? <g>

I could use some more memory, myself...

What about those people who purchased a new 286 with DOS and Word on it?
Didn't they pay a multiple of what a person now has to pay for a new PC
with Linux on it? Shouldn't MS be forced to give them a copy of the
latest MS Word that will work on that machine? And be as full featured?

Or would you feel better if IBM operated the way they used to in the past.

Obsolete the S/34 and come out with the S/36. If they did that with the
400 would you then feel better?

Or, why doesn't GM do free upgrades on my 1987 Oldsmobile?

Just upgrade people.
