John, I think the problem with the modem (I still a few flavors hanging around here: a 7855 (9600 bps) and a dog slow one(2400bps)...) is that my 800 doesn't support it without a different controller card (as I recall). Yep. Good ol SDLC and SNA was the way we wanted to go. Didn't realize we had to specfically tell IBM that we wanted to do SDLC when we configured this thing.
