I also think that there should be an automation process in place to deploy from test/development into production. That process should handle the archiving of the old objecct as well as setting authority for the new/replacement objects and copying data back and forth, where required. I've had to write a few of these from scratch in places where change management tools were deemed too expensive. --buck
