Me on a horse? I've been on a horse only twice in my life, and like being on
a high horse, the feeling is the same, like you've just come last in a
backside kicking competition. I feel no such discomfort at present.

The phrase I used to describe the class of questions I would not respond to
is 'transparently lessons'.

Of course I will reply to questions I feel I can contribute something to,
even if in my view they are simple. However, there is a certain undefinable
quality about a question that makes it clear that the poster has no
understanding at all, e.g. "how do I create a physical file?".

This is a place for asking for assistance, not a place for seeking basic
iSeries education. If my view on this puts me on a high horse, so be it. I
tolerate receiving dozens of emails via midrange-l every day, on threads
that do not interest me, that is the nature of the service. If it turns
into a forum for basic iSeries education I will almost certaining
unsubscribe.

I am a firm believer in paying for formal education, though self-study from
manuals plays a major role too. I mentioned 'cheating' in my earlier
posting, the biggest losers are those who won't read a manual, the help
text, or pay to go on a course.

I teach basic os400 to hardware engineers; one subject is 'menu navigation';
how to find such functions as 'work with system status' ...
a) From menu MAIN, take option 3, General system tasks
b) From menu SYSTEM, take option 2, Status
c) From menu STATUS, take either option 6, Work with system status
                                                        or option 10, Work
with shared pools

If this kind of search is beyond anyone, they NEED training.

Kind regards,

Jeffrey E. Bull
