First of all let me say that IBM put the whole kit and caboodle in one
object, which admittedly did reduce save/restore overhead, but made the
individual parts of the data more difficult to manipulate. So they had to
write API's, etc. Someone explained to me (and I don't remember why) a file
wouldn't have worked at the time, but I think that it was related to the
types of data that we had available then.

In a future release of OS/400 (not that I ever know anything about the
future), IBM was going to do the same thing for a certain new type of data
object, and I persuaded them to make them individual objects.

I'm not a liberty to say more about that, but ask me for an example after
the next release or two comes out.

Al:

Would you please expand on why you feel it was a 'clooge'? I mean, I
believe that there are enhancements that should be made (e.g.,
dependencies), but I've liked the general object structure from the
beginning. It's been the minimal enhancement for _years_ that's been my big
issue.
