The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.

One of the most interesting things (to me, anyway) was that when the
AS/400 migrated from the 48-bit CISC architecture (not a wimpy 16 or
32 bits!) to the 64-bit RISC architecture the design of the system
was such that it was 'easy' to jack up the operating system, roll out
the old hardware, roll in new hardware, attach it to the OS, and we
were off and running, and the programs and files almost didn't notice
the difference.
Now -that's- architecture!
Well, the programs did have to be re-encapsulated-- does that count?

Of course, the P-code that Unix used to use was supposed to allow
portability.. whatever happened to P-code?? And isn't Java supposed
to be similarly portable?
