6817 is 2-byte ultra SCSI. 6713 is also 2-byte ultra SCSI but is only supported in the 170 system unit and 7101 or 7102 system expansion unit. What processor do you have? With that information, I can tell you exactly what disks and IOP's will work. FYI, I am a a vendor. Thanks, Jeffrey P. They are both 8.58G 10K drives. We have a 6713, 8.58G 7200rpm in our 170-2291 with 5.1. I am looking at replacing the 6607's with 10K drives. The IBM links does not show the 67xx drives for the 170 but show the 68xx drives. The 67xx drive must work cause we have one working. Is the interface different? Ultra2 vs. Ultra3 or something to that effect. Will I need to upgrade the DASD controller from the MFIOP to a 2741 to support the 68xx drives? What I am interested in is changing the 4G to 8.5G 10k drives. The price is the same for both the 6717 and 6817 drives so I want to know the difference. Is it just the mounting kit? Cause it don't matter to me since I will be replacing existing drives and can swap the mountings. Christopher K.
