From what you posted below the warantee is purchased - there isn't a "non-waranteed version". Also something is not being communicated properly. From the README included with the mysql-3.23.54a source code: This is a release of MySQL, a GPL (free) SQL database server futhermore there is a file called COPYING which lo and behold, is the GNU GPL. > >From www.mysql.com: > > You need to purchase commercial non-GPL MySQL licenses: > > If you distribute MySQL Software with your non open source software, > If you want warranty from MySQL AB for the MySQL software, > If you want to support MySQL development. What this means: 1. You can distribute mysql code with proprietary code (normally this is not allowed by the GPL) if you buy another license, i.e. they will relicense the code differently to you. 2. GPL code is not normally waranteed - in fact none is that I know of. But mysql will warantee their product to you for a fee. If a warantee makes you sleep better, you can buy one. 3. If you would like to support the development of mysql you can do so buy purchasing a copy. This is the same as just donating money to the project. James Rich
