Scott, you're in a great position to share your experience, so I appreciate the input. What keeps making me thinking that "someone" should setup a unified archive is that I see so much code shared here on the lists. But then, Google has never let me down when I needed a wrapper for some obscure API, so that seems to be a vote against some central source.
